Customer Experience

Journey Curator (remote)

Preferable Location(s): Cape Town, South Africa
Work Type: Full Time

Viatu is a travel tech company designing bespoke African wildlife journeys. We're a young, dynamic, and ambitious international team, with a strong base in Cape Town for regular meetups. We don't sell trips; we craft experiences that people carry with them for the rest of their lives.

We're looking for a Journey Curator to own the traveller experience from the moment a booking is confirmed to long after they've returned home.

About the Role

You are the person who turns a great itinerary into an unforgettable journey. Working side by side with our Sales team, you shape every detail, making sure the right room is waiting, the sundowner is perfectly timed, and the surprise anniversary celebration actually lands. You're the one who spots what's missing before anyone else does, and fixes what's broken before the traveller ever knows.

This is not a back-office role. You're a core part of how Viatu delivers on its promise. You'll be on the phone with lodges in the Serengeti, coordinating transfers across time zones, and sending a traveller a reassuring voice note when their flight gets rerouted, all in the same morning.

It's fast. It's demanding. And when a family messages you three weeks later saying it was the best trip of their lives, you'll know exactly why.

Does This Sound Like You?

You genuinely care about getting it right, not because someone is checking, but because a half-done job doesn't sit well with you. You're the kind of person who re-reads the email one more time, double-checks the transfer time, and remembers that the client mentioned their daughter is vegetarian.

You thrive when things move fast and you're juggling multiple travellers, suppliers, and priorities at once. You pick up the phone when a message won't cut it. You're warm, sharp, and impossible to rattle.

You communicate beautifully in English — written and spoken — and you're comfortable putting together polished client-facing materials when the moment calls for it.

What You'll Do

  • Shape every journey: Personalise and finalise itineraries alongside Sales, ensuring each trip feels considered down to the last detail.

  • Anticipate, don't react: Think ahead for travellers — from dietary needs to arrival logistics — so they feel looked after without having to ask.

  • Own supplier relationships: Coordinate directly with lodges, transport providers, and local partners. Nothing slips through.

  • Be the voice travellers trust: When something shifts on the ground, even outside office hours, you're the calm, capable person they hear from. By phone, not just email.

  • Close the loop: Manage post-travel follow-up, gather feedback, and keep the relationship alive long after the trip ends.

  • Contribute across the team: Pitch in on content, marketing, and social when your perspective adds value.

What We're Looking For

  • Outstanding written and spoken English. You write clearly, speak confidently, and adapt your tone to the audience.

  • Sharp attention to detail and strong self-organisation.

  • Comfortable owning problems end-to-end without being asked.

  • Calm under pressure, warm in every interaction.

  • Confident on the phone, not just behind a screen.

  • Digitally fluent: Google Suite, Slack, and whatever else the job throws at you.

  • Able to juggle competing priorities without dropping quality.

  • You are based in Africa, ideally in Cape Town, or within ±2 hours of Central European Time

A Big Plus

  • Experience in travel, hospitality, or a client-facing role where details matter.

  • An additional language beyond English, such as German, French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese.

Compensation

  • Base salary: R20,000–R30,000 per month, depending on experience and seniority.

  • Additional bonus tied to target achievement.

Benefits

  • Go on safaris and amazing adventures for a living; someone has to test them.

  • Attractive travel allowances, educational trips, and special travel incentives for you and your family.

  • Fully remote with a decentralised team and regular meetups in Cape Town & Europe.

  • Opportunities for rapid career growth in a small, ambitious company.

  • Access to internal and external education and lifelong learning.

  • A direct impact on people and planet in the destinations we operate in.

Process

We appreciate your time and want to be fully transparent about our hiring:

  • Role-specific assessment you can complete in your own time.

  • Role-specific interview with a member of the team.

  • Final interview with our CEO or Head of Operations.

  • Preference is given to candidates based in Cape Town
